Chapter 5

It had gone beyond her, beyond everything. He had thrown himself into it with a creative passion, adding to it all the time, decking it out with every bright feather that drifted his way. No amount of fire or freshness can challenge what a man will store up in his ghostly heart.” ~ Nick, Pg. 97

1: Gatsby’s dream of his life with Daisy had become so real to him that he had gone into so much detail and had involved so many people. When the quote says It had gone beyond her, beyond everything,” to me this means that his dream to get Daisy had consumed his real life so much that he had used so many people and objects to try and catch her attention. Gatsby had created a life that wasn’t real and now not only did he have to keep his guard up for Daisy but also everyone else he had involved.
2: The second sentence describes how Gatsby has tried to catch Daisy’s attention…….
3: The “ghostly heart” can represent how haunted Gatsby is by Daisy. Even when he is at his own parties, he walks around absently waiting for Daisy to come, kind of like a ghost wandering around an uninhabited house, even though it is filled with plenty of people, Gatsby doesn’t know any or want to socialize with them. Gatsby has been living life like a ghost in his “real” life, craving a life with the Daisy he knew and loved five years ago.
